What is considered plus-size?
In the US, plus-size is generally considered to be a 14/16 and above, though customers wearing 12, 14, or 16 may also identify as plus-size because clothing options become more limited above a US 10. The average woman in the US wears between a 14 and 18, which means more women in the US wear plus sizes than straight sizes — a fact most of the broader fashion industry still hasn't caught up to.
What's the difference between "plus," "extended," and "curve" sizing?
The terms aren't standardized industry-wide. Plus-size generally refers to sizes 14/16 and up. Extended-size often means a straight-size brand has added larger sizes onto an existing line — sometimes well-engineered, sometimes graded up from a sample size. Curve is the newer term used by contemporary brands (June & Vie, Dia & Co) signaling that fit has been engineered from the pattern up for fuller figures rather than scaled from a straight-size sample.
